 AHAC Call for Posters

POSTER ABSTRACT DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MAY 11th!

 Poster Requirements:
  • The poster competition is open to all full time undergraduate and graduate students. There will be a formal poster presentation for judging on Wednesday, June 27 from 1:45 pm – 4:45 pm. You should be prepared to discuss your poster with faculty, students and other attendees. The research should be presented by giving sufficient background material so that it is understandable to someone not knowledgeable in your topic. You are required to have your poster and abstract completed prior to your arrival. All posters are to have a maximum measurement of 48"wide x 36" tall. The poster font should be readable at a distance of 5 feet, preferably size 14 or larger and double spaced text. Your abstract should also be displayed.
  • Posters should address a topic that aligns with the conference focus including:
    • High Altitude Ballooning and Education 
    • HAB Operation Techniques and Practices 
    • HAB Engineering, Design and Implementation 
    • HAB in Scientific and Research Applications

This is not a complete list but should serve as a guide. 

The following information should be somewhere on your poster: 

  • Title of the Research Project
  • Student Researcher(s): your name and the names of any collaborators
  • Advisor: Name of your faculty or staff advisor
  • Name of College / University you attend
  • Department name

The judging of the posters and abstracts will be based on the following criteria:

  • Poster abstract will be judged on both content and clarity of writing 
  • The research or scholarship on which the poster is based is excellent 
  • The poster content is accurate, correct and referenced 
  • The poster communicates well to a general audience 
  • The poster is interesting, creative and attractive  
  • The layout of the poster is well organized and easy to follow 
  • The author(s) effectively use figures, charts and pictures 

 

  • If you are selected for an award, you will be notified Thursday morning. The First, second and third place awardees are expected to make a PowerPoint presentation on their project on Friday morning. Your presentation must be limited to 20 minutes (including Q&A). Your presentation should be on a USB Flash Drive. 

 

Abstract Requirements:

The poster abstract is limited to no more than 250 words. The abstract should include: 

  • What problem did you study and why is it important to this conference?
  • What methods did you use?
  • What were your results?
  • What conclusion can you draw from your results about the problem you studied?

The abstract should be single spaced, no smaller than Times New Roman 12 point font, and with 1” margins.
