Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction 

Master’s Program Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to the Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction Master’s Program:

  • Submit a completed online application and $25 non-refundable fee.
  • Submit two (2) copies of official transcripts. Transcripts marked "Issued to Student" are not recognized as official transcripts. Official transcripts must be mailed directly from the university granting the degree. Request that transcripts be mailed directly to Dr. Lewis Bridges (see address above).
  • Submit scanned copy of picture identification card.
  • Submit copy of teaching license (if applicable).
  • If not currently teacher of record in a public school classroom, submit proof of fingerprinting and complete successful background check.
  • Must have access to a school where practica requirements can be completed.
  • Complete successful interview with program director.

English Language Learners

Endorsement Only Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to the English Language Learners Endorsement Only Program:

  • Submit a completed online application and $25 non-refundable fee.
  • Submit two (2) copies of official transcripts. Transcripts marked "Issued to Student" are not recognized as official transcripts. Official transcripts must be mailed directly from the university granting the degree. Request that transcripts be mailed directly to Dr. Lewis Bridges (see address above).
  • Submit copy of teaching license.
  • If not currently teacher of record in a public school classroom, submit proof of fingerprinting and complete successful background check.

Master's Program Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to the English Language Learners Master’s Program:

  • Submit a completed online application and $25 non-refundable fee.

  • Submit evidence of passing scores from one of the following required exams:
    • 378 on the Miller Analogy Test
    • 290 on the current version of the Graduate Record Exam/800 on the previous version (verbal and quantitative combined)
    • International Students only: TOEFL scores in addition to MAT or GRE (550 paper version/213 computer version)
  • Submit record of immunizations to the Health Clinic by faxing to (615) 248-7797. Click here for information.
    • If these cannot be obtained, a titer test may be scheduled with the TNU Health Clinic by calling (615) 248-1261.
  • Submit copy of teaching license (if applicable).
  • If not currently teacher of record in a public school classroom, submit proof of fingerprinting and complete successful background check.
  • Complete successful interview with program director as well as writing sample.

Library and Information Science

  • If not currently teacher of record in a public school classroom, submit proof of fingerprinting and complete successful background check.
  • Submit proof of three (3) years of successful K-12 teaching experience: Verification of Teaching.
  • Submit Administrative Recommendation.
  • Submit writing sample: Personal Statement.
  • Complete successful interview with program director.

Visual Impairments/Special Education

Master's Program Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to the Visual Impairments/Special Education Master’s Program:

  • Submit a completed online application and $25 non-refundable fee.
  • Submit two (2) copies of official transcripts. Transcripts marked "Issued to Student" are not recognized as official transcripts. Official transcripts must be mailed directly from the university granting the degree. Request that transcripts be mailed directly to Mrs. Allison Dumas (see address below).
  • Submit evidence of passing scores from one of the following required exams:
    • 378 on the Miller Analogy Test
    • 290 on the current version of the Graduate Record Exam/800 on the previous version (verbal and quantitative combined)
    • International Students only:  TOEFL scores in addition to MAT or GRE (550 paper version/213 computer version)

  • Submit proof of fingerprinting and complete background check (required of all students by Tennessee School for the Blind to complete practicum work with TSB students).
  • Submit copy of current resume.
  • Submit letter of "Nomination and Support" from administrator.
  • Submit signed "Memorandum of Understanding."
  • Submit two (2) to three (3) page “Philosophy of Teaching Individuals with Exceptionalities” essay.
  • (For grant applicants only) Submit original signed and notarized Student Service Agreement.
  • Complete successful interview.
