Graduate Counseling
I am forever indebted to Trevecca's Graduate Counseling Program. It helped me build a solid foundation for a great career in the mental health field. The education, supervision, and support I received from my professors were invaluable. I highly recommend this program.
— David Mark Thomas, LPC-MHSP, NCC, Clinical Director, LifeCare Family Services
The Graduate Counseling Program emphasizes development of professional counselors and their professional identity, offering degrees in counseling, marriage and family therapy, and doctoral counselor education and supervision. The master degree programs meet academic requirements for licensure, as these programs are designed to prepare students for licensure as a professional counselor (LPC-MHSP) or marriage and family therapist (LMFT) in the state of Tennessee. The doctoral degree program offers an advanced professional experience for clinicians seeking to enhance not only therapeutic skills but also to develop further their professional identity and involvement in teaching, supervision, or clinical practice.
Trevecca's Marriage and Family Therapy Program trains and develops therapists of the highest caliber and produces a unique combination of deep community and rich exploration for its students.
— Amy Alexander, LMFT, Exec. Dir., Therapist, The Refuge Center for Counseling

Doctoral Degree Program
The art of therapy relies upon the clinician’s grasp of therapeutic models, a deep understanding of the client’s human condition, and a sense of confidence in self and model, all woven together with grace. This is what can be attained through the PhD Clinical Counseling program at Trevecca. I personally received a valuable integration of research training and intervention techniques. This has increased my own love of learning and growing and has enabled me to become a better clinician and supervisor.”
— Dianne Bradley, PhD, LMFT, The Center for Marriage & the Family
PhD Clinical Counseling: Teaching & Supervision
The doctoral program in Clinical Counseling began in the fall of 2007 with its first cohort of students. The program originated as a Doctor of Education (EdD) and recently was converted to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Clinical Counseling: Teaching and Supervision.
This degree will prepare counselors and marriage and family therapists for work in a variety of settings: supervisory, administrative, clinical, teaching, and research positions. The education and training from this program will help counselors gain leadership and service skills that employers are currently seeking.
