Sydney Maxfield, Class of 2014

Hometown: East Peoria, IL

Graduation Year: 2014

Area of Ministry Interest/Passion: Worship, Youth, Camps, Event Planning

Tell us about your call to ministry: I have felt a strong call to ministry since early high school days and felt a really strong pull towards music ministry right before college. Youth group and church camp is where the love of Christ became truly real to me and I want to help lead other teenagers in that transformative experience. I believe ministry is all about the relationships and the trust you build with your congregation. Discipling is also very near to my heart.  I'm very passionate about teaching people in such a way that they are able to process and come up with conclusions by themselves, through the leadership and theological guidance that is exemplified to them.

Favorite Thing to Do/See/Eat  in Nashville: I love enjoying the Parthenon on sunny days and going to Cafe Coco late at night. It is a great way to immerse yourself in the diversity and excitement of such a vibrant city.

What are a few of your favorite (or one of your favorite) Trevecca memories? My time with Student Government (on retreats, planning events, having fun in meetings) will always be at the top of this list. Deep theological conversations in the cafeteria was always time well spent too, even as a freshman!

How do you think that Trevecca has shaped you for ministry? Trevecca has broadened my mind and taught me so much. I learned new ways to see the Bible, God, people, as well as new ways to approach ministry in a variety of settings. My professors and advisors have been an integral part of my journey and have been a great source of encouragement in seasons of doubt. I will take these examples with me and continue to do the same for others.

What are your plans after graduation? I plan to stay in Nashville for the next couple of months, working in retail and applying for ministry jobs. I hope by the end of the summer to have found a job and be in the process of moving and beginning a new adventure!
