NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca
baseball team (2-4) hosted former conference foe Lee University (5-3)
on Tuesday for their 2005 Home Opener, and split a double-header with
the Flames.
Todd Dunlap started the first game and pitched well over six innings,
allowing three runs, only two of which were earned, on 6 hits, while
walking two and striking out nine. Brad Coon had a bases clearing
triple in the bottom of the third to give the Trojans a 3-1 lead.
Trevecca could not hold on, however, as the flames tied the game in the
sixth, and scored six times in the seventh. The Trojans tried to mount
a comeback, scraping across a run in the bottom of the seventh, but it
was not enough as Lee held on for the 9-4 victory. Chris Fowler (1-1)
took the loss for the Trojans and Zack Hilliard provided the catching.
Game two saw Luke Brown make his first start as a Trojan, lasting five
innings allowing only one earned run on four hits, while walking 2 and
fanning two. The Trojans started strong as Brad Coon led off the game
with a walk, then immediately stole second and third, eventually
scoring on a groundout to give the Trojans the early lead. The Flames
managed to scrape across a run in the fifth and another in the sixth,
taking a 2-1 lead, but the Trojans had an answer. Following a Bubba
Norris single, and two Lee errors, Chad Hitchcock tied the game with an
RBI single through the drawn-in infield. Hitchcock was then driven in
himself by Craig Ballentine’s RBI double, providing the Trojans with
the final margin of victory, 3-2. Rollin Sterritt (1-0) picked up the
win, while Chris Fowler earned his first save of the year.
