AIKEN, S.C. – Trevecca (16-8) fell to
Brevard College (8-13) 12-2 in their first game of the day, but rallied
to upset USC-Aiken 4-1 at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. Trevecca has won
14 of their last 16 games.
In their first game of the day the Trojans saw Brevard College score
four in the bottom of the first and three in the third to take a 7-0
lead. Trevecca score two in the fifth, but Brevard answered with
another three runs in their half of the fifth and another run in the
sixth and seventh innings. Brad Coon was 3-for-4 for the Trojans with a
run and a stolen base. Freshman Michael McGee (0-2) started for the
Trojans and took the loss. Jordan Hotchkiss picked up the win. Trevecca
scored two runs on six hits and had four errors. Brevard had 13 hits
and one error.
In the nightcap Trevecca faced the host Pacers of USC-Aiken and came
away with a 4-1 victory. Dean Mitchell tossed a complete game holding
USC-Aiken (11-6) to just one run on five hits as Trevecca posted the
4-1 win over the Pacers on a blustery evening at Roberto Hernandez
Stadium. With the loss USCA’s lost for just the second in 11 games at
home this season. Chad Hitchcock’s two-out single to shortstop scored
Bubba Norris for the game’s first run in the top of the fifth. The
Trojans added another tally in the sixth on an RBI single by Stipe
Miocic. The Pacers got on the board in the home half of the sixth to
make it a 2-1 game. Craig Ballentine slapped a two-run single to right
field with the bases loaded in the eighth to set the final margin at
4-1. Brad Coon and Kyle Jackson, hitters one and two in the Trojan
lineup, accounted for four of the team’s eight hits. Coon added another
stolen base to his totals and has 18 steals in 19 attempts on the
season. Mitchell (2-1) allowed just the one unearned run on five hits
and one walk, striking out six in the complete game victory. Jon Paul
(1-1) gave up two earned runs on four hits and one walk, but was the
hard-luck loser.
Trevecca will finish the Spring Break trip to South Carolina with a
game against USC-Aiken on Wednesday at Noon. Trevecca’s next home game
will be on Friday, March 11 at 6 p.m. (Shelby Park). Trevecca will host
North Greenville for a game on March 12 at Noon at Trevecca’s Jackson
Field.
