NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No. 26 Trevecca
(17-9) returned home to host North Greenville for a weekend series,
with the first game being played at Shelby Park on Friday.
Luke Brown (3-0) took the ball for the Trojans with Craig Ballentine
behind the plate, but the Crusaders were able to scratch a run across
in the top of the first to take the early 1-0 lead. In the Bottom of
the seaond, however, Bubba Norris drew a walk, and Ryan Hoganson drove
him in with and RBI triple to left-center to tie the game. Cody
Willoughby came to the plate next and knocked in Hoganson with a Sac
fly to right and the Trojans took the lead 2-1. The Trojans came up
with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth, but North Greenville
answered with three of their own in the top of the seventh, sending the
game to the stretch with Trevecca ahead 5-4. The Trojans plated an
insurance run in the bottom of the seventh, and Chris Fowler recorded a
scoreless ninth inning for his second save of the season. Stephen
Ratliff (0-1) took the loss for the Crusaders, with his brother David
coming in to relieve him in the seventh. Kyle Baron handled the
catching duties
Willoughby led the Trojans offensively on the day, going 1-for-3 with
the sacrifice fly and three RBI. Hoganson was also 1-for-3 with the
triple, a walk, a stolen base, an RBI and two runs scored. Matt Bonds
was 1-for-3 with a run and two steals, and Shaun Cozart also went
1-for-3 with a walk, a run, an RBI, and a steal.
