Trevecca (27-10, 1-1) opened conference play on Friday with
Freed-Hardeman (19-10, 1-1) visiting Trevecca’s Jackson Field for a
double-header.
Todd Dunlap started game one for the Trojans, lasting 2 1/3 innings,
before Luke Brown came in and picked up the win. Brown, now 5-0, threw
4 2/3 innings allowing three hits and only one earned run while fanning
six. The game began as an offensive explosion with Freed-Hardeman
scoring one in the first, four in the second, and three in the third;
while Trevecca plated three runs in the first, three more in the
second, and two in the third, tying the ballgame at 8-8. Freed plated
another run in the top of the fifth, but the Trojans answered back with
four in the bottom of the inning, taking the 12-9 win. Kyle Phillips
(5-2) took the loss as the Trojans scored 12 runs on 17 hits. Brad Coon
fell a home run short of the cycle, going 3-for-4 on the day with a
double, a triple, a stolen base, three runs and two RBI. Kyle Jackson
was also 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and three RBI; and Stipe
Miocic was 2-for-4 with a triple, a run, and an RBI. The Lions scored
their nine runs on 11 hits. Both teams had three errors.
In game two, Dean Mitchell (4-2) took the loss for the Trojans as
Freed-Hardeman came out and scored five runs in the first inning. They
added single runs in the second, fourth, sixth, and seventh to take the
victory 9-0. Josh Hester (7-1) recorded the win for Freed-Hardeman,
throwing a complete game shutout and allowing only five Trojan hits.
One bright spot for Trevecca was third baseman Stipe Miocic, who was
2-for-3 in the game with two doubles. Freed scored nine runs on 10 hits
without an error, while Trevecca had five hits and five errors.
