NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 13 Trevecca (34-11, 7-2) hosted Martin Methodist (11-26, 0-9) at Jackson Field on Saturday for a double-header, with the Trojans taking the games by scores of 5-1, and 6-3.
Barrett Brown, the Trojan starter, was staked to an early lead, as the Trojans plated runs in the first, fourth, and fifth innings, taking a 3-0 lead over Martin Methodist starter Britt Bearden. Martin scratched across a run in the top of the sixth, but Trevecca responded with two more runs in the bottom half, giving the Trojans the 5-1 win. Brown (6-2) took the win and both he and Bearden (0-1) hurled Complete games. Brown allowed only three hits and one earned run, while walking three and fanning seven. Kyle Jackson was 2-for-3 in the game with a run, an RBI, and a stolen base; Brad Coon was 1-for-3 with a run and his 38th stolen base of the season; and Bubba Norris was 1-for-3 with a two run double in the sixth inning. Trevecca scored five runs on five hits, while Martin Methodist plated one run on three hits. Neither team committed an error
Dean Mitchell took the ball for the Trojans in game two, picking up the win (5-3) in a complete game effort. Both teams scored a run in the third, but the Trojans staked Mitchell to the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four runs on five hits in the frame. The RedHawks cut the lead in half in the top of the sixth, but on the first pitch of the bottom half, Ryan Hoganson hit his first home run of the season, setting the final Margin at 6-3. Randy Stewart (1-7) started and took the loss for the RedHawks, with Mark Young relieving him in the fifth, and Trent Haddock making a relief appearance in the sixth. Brad Coon was 2-for-3 in the game with a double, a triple, a walk, two runs, an RBI, and his 39th stolen base of the season. Coon is now just seven stolen bases away from tying the Trevecca career record for stolen bases with 91. Cody Willoughby was 2-for-3 with a run, and Kyle Jackson was 1-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Mitchell threw a complete game, allowing nine hits, three runs, only one of which was earned, while walking one and striking out four. Trevecca plated six runs on nine hits with one error, while Martin Methodist scored three runs on nine hits without committing an error.
