Top Seeded Trojans Advance
NASHVILLE,
Tenn. - The top seeded Trevecca Trojans (42-15) defeated sixth seeded
Martin Methodist College (14-36) by a final score of 12-0 Wednesday
afternoon in the first round of the TranSouth Conference Tournament.
Trevecca
scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second, four in the
fourth, one in the sixth, and four in the seventh to force the run rule
on Martin Methodist in seven innings. Trojan hurler Barrett Brown (9-3)
threw the complete game shutout giving up only five hits and striking
out three in seven innings of work. For Martin Methodist, Britt Bearden
(0-3) lasted only one inning giving up three earned runs on three hits
and three walks. Mark Young relieved Bearden and threw one and
two-thirds innings giving up five earned runs on seven hits while
Randall Henry gave up four earned runs on six hits in four innings of
work. RedHawk reliever Trent Haddock faced two batters to get the final
out in the top of the seventh inning giving up no runs on one hit.
Trevecca's
Kyle Jackson led the Trojans batting 4-for-4 on the day with three
runs, two RBI, a walk, and a stolen base. Stipe Miocic went 2-for-3
with a double, one run, four RBI, and an inside-the-park home run.
Martin Methodist's Alan Lindsey went 2-for-3 with a double.
Trevecca
tallied 12 runs on 17 hits and committed one error while Martin
Methodist put up no runs on five hits and committed three errors.

Trevecca advances to play Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. against the loser of
#3 Lyon vs. #4 Freed-Hardeman while # Martin Methodist will face #2
Cumberland University in the loser's bracket Wednesday at 11:00 a.m.
