Lions Roar in Second Upset of Day One
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - #4 seeded
Freed-Hardeman (35-22) upset #3 seed Lyon College (48-15) in a 10-2
victory at Shelby Park to close play on Day One of the 2005 TranSouth
Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Lions opened the game with a run in the top of the first inning and
added three more in the top of the seventh. The Scots finally got on
the board with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the Lions
lead in half. FHU wouldn’t be content and score three more runs in the
top of the eighth and made in scored three more runs in the top of the
ninth.
Josh Hester picked up the win and Hal Skinner took the loss. Hester
pitched seven innings and allowed just two runs on five hits and struck
out 10 Scots while walking just two. Skinner allowed four runs in 6.2
innings pitched. Jarrett Jones paced the Lions with a 2-for-5 plate
appearance. Jones scored two runs and stole three bases. Justin Forrest
was 3-for-5 with three RBI, three runs scored, a stolen base, and a
walk.
Freed-Hardeman scored their 10 runs on 11 hits, had six stolen bases,
and committed two errors. Lyon scored two runs on five hits and had two
errors.
#4 Freed-Hardeman will face #5 Union at Shelby Park at 7 p.m. on
Wednesday. #3 Lyon will face #1 Trevecca at 2:30 at Trevecca’s Jackson
Field.
