Another Game, Another Upset in Region XI Tournament
LEBANON, Tenn. (Baird Park) - For the
second game in a row there was an upset in the NAIA Region XI baseball
tournament. #3 seed Campbellsville University (41-13) led 7-1
before losing to #4 seed Lambuth University (36-26) in 10 innings.
Campbellsville, the regular season and
tournament champion from the Mid-South conference, scored a run in the
first, two in the second, and four in the fourth to take a commanding
7-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth. Lambuth scored one in the
third and again in the fifth. Then in the seventh inning Lambuth scored
three and then two more in the eighth inning to tie the contest at 7-7.
Neither team scord in the ninth and Campbellsville couldn't get a run
in the top of the 10th. Lambuth score a run in the 10th to get the win.
Donnie Johnson took the loss in relief
for the Tigers and Brandon Jackson pitched the final three innings for
the Eagles to get the win. Andrew Koop started for the Tigers and
Justin Williams started on the mound for the Eagles.
Chris Logan was 4-for-4 for the Eagles
and scored twice. Andres Jujica was 3-for-6 with two RBI and a run
scored. Patrick Lackey was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Five different Tigers had two hits in the game.
Campbellsville will face #6 Cumberland
College at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday and Lambuth will face the winner of
the Cumberland (Tenn.)/Lyon College game at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
