LEBANON, Tenn. (Baird Park) - #6 seed Cumberland College continued its
winning ways in the winners bracket of the NAIA Region XI baseball
tournament. The Patriots (37-19) eliminated conference foe #3 seed
Campbellsville University with a 4-3 victory in game 5 of the Region XI
Tournament.
The Patriots scored two runs in the top of the first inning and saw
their lead cut in half as the Tigers scored a run in the bottom half.
The Patriots extended their lead with two runs in the top of the fourth
inning. Campbellsville scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth,
but it wasn't enough. Cumberland College scored their four runs on nine
hits and had three errors. Campbellsville score their three runs on
eight hits and also had three errors.
Isaiah Ruffner went the entire nine innings to secure the win and only
allowed three (unearned) runs in the game on eight hits, one walk, and
had four strikeouts. Morgan Carlile took the loss for the Tigers after
going just three innings and gave up four (earned) runs on seven hits
and had a strikeout.
Chaz Gentry was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a walk. Chris Cartas was 1-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored.
Campbellsville, the Mid-South regular season and tournament champion,
ends their season with the loss. Cumberland College continues on to
face the winner of the game between #2 seed Cumberland University and
#4 seed Lambuth University on Friday at Noon.
