#2 Cumberland University Advances With Win Number 50
LEBANON, Tenn. (Baird Park) - #2 seed
Cumberland University (50-18) advanced in the winners bracket with a
6-2 win over #4 Lambuth University (36-27) on Thursday.
The Bulldogs found themselves down 1-0 after the Eagles scored a run in
the top of the first. The Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the second
with two runs to take the lead. The Bulldogs made it 5-1 with three
runs in the fourth and finished their scoring with a run in the sixth.
The Eagles scored a run in the eighth to finish the scoring in the game.
Cumberland scored their six runs on five hits with an error. Lambuth
scored their two runs on just one hit and committed five errrors.
Steve Kline got the win for the Bulldogs with a 7.1 inning performance
and allowed just one hit, eight walks, and had seven strikouts in the
game. Josh Underwood finished the game with a perfect final 1.2
innings. Bryan Rafie took the loss for Lambuth after pitching eight
innings and allowed five hits, three walks, and struck out eight.
Vladimir Munoz provided the offense for Cumberland. Munoz was 2-for-3 with a run scored, three RBI, a stolen base, and a double.
Lamuth will face #1 seed Trevecca on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in an
elimination game. Cumberland will face #6 seed Cumberland College at
Noon on Friday.
