LAMBUTH WAS FORCED TO FORFIET THIS GAME DUE TO AN INELIGIBLE PLAYER

LEBANON, Tenn. - NAIA No. 6 and top seeded Trevecca (47-16saw their season come to a close with a loss to fourth seeded Lambuth University (37-27) Friday in the NAIA Region XI Tournament by a final score of 9-5.

 
In the first inning, Trevecca's Kyle Jackson squelched an early Lambuth rally with a diving two-out catch to strand two runners on base. A Bubba Norris RBI single in the second inning scored Shaun Cozart to take an early 1-0 Trevecca lead.
 
With runners at the corners in the bottom of the second, Trevecca third baseman Stipe Miocic overthrew catcher Craig Ballentine to give Lambuth a run and tie the game at 1-1. Cozart gave the Trojans the lead back with an RBI single to score Miocic in the top of the fourth inning. Lambuth allowed three more runs in the inning on two balks called on pitcher Dustin McKeel to give Trevecca a 4-1 lead.
 
Lambuth wasted no time mounting a comeback as Wes Daniels led off the next inning with a solo home run. Three batters later, Jason Serrano launched the first pitch he saw over the left field fence with a runner on to tie the game at 4-4.
 
Brandon Jackson gave Lambuth the lead with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning followed by a Ryan Hoganson error which allowed another run to score giving Lambuth a 6-4 advantage.
 
Miocic pulled Trevecca to within one with an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning, but Lambuth responded once again with two runs in the seventh inning and one in the eighth to take the 9-5 victory.
 
Trevecca's Dean Mitchell (7-4) took the loss, but was awarded thw win when the game was forfieted, giving up six runs (three earned) on eight hits and striking out one. Hunter Norton relieved Mitchell for the seventh inning and gave up two runs (both earned) and five hits. Nick Bodnar finished the game for Trevecca in the eighth and kept Lambuth hitless in the three batters he faced. Lambuth's Dustin McKeel got the win pitching six and two-thirds innings and giving up four runs (three earned) on 12 hits and striking out three. Brandon Jackson picked up the save in relief giving up one run (unearned) on one hit and striking out three.
 
Shaun Cozart and Bubba Norris each batted 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI in the losing effort for Trevecca while Lambuth's Jason Serrano batted 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and three RBI.
 
Trevecca scored five runs on 13 hits and committed six costly errors while Lambuth scored nine runs on 13 hits and committed only one error.
 
The forfiet win ended the Trojans' season at 47-16 overall.
