The 2006-2007 Trojan basketball team looked forward to another banner season with the return of the core of a team that had won the TranSouth Championship and advanced to the NAIA Sweet 16 in two consecutive seasons. The Trevecca men’s basketball team opened the season receiving votes in the NAIA Pre-Season Top-25 Poll. 

Without All-TranSouth performer Josh Helton in the lineup and the loss of two starters from the previous season, Trevecca opened the season with a pair of tough losses to ranked teams at the Voorhees Classic. A 64-57 Homecoming win over Knoxville College started the Trojans on a three-game win streak. The Trojans remained undefeated at home in the Robert Garrett Classic, defeating both Concordia-Selma and Taylor University. After a pair of tough losses (one to ranked Auburn-Montgomery) at the Cumberland University Classic, the Trojans earned a tough road win at Oakwood College.

The team closed the first semester with a trip to the NAIA Disney Challenge in Orlando, Florida. After a tough loss to Montreat College in the opener the Trojans dominated St. Joseph's (Vt.) 120-54. Returning to campus after a short Christmas break the Trojans picked up a pair of wins over Union College (Ky.) and Tennessee Temple in the Trojan Boosters Endowment Classic. In the Tennessee Temple game, senior Collins Onyando produced a double-double (his fourth of the season), a category he would finish ranked No. 9 in the NAIA. Onyando received the TranSouth Player of the Week honors after the performance. The victory sent Trevecca into conference play on a three-game win streak.

Trevecca visited Martin Methodist to open conference play but fell to the RedHawks. Trevecca returned home to a packed Moore Gymnasium, defeating both NAIA-No. 12 Union University and Bethel College. The opponents didn’t get any easier when the Trojans visited cross-town rival and conference foe Cumberland University. The Trojans were defeated in a close contest. The Trojans rebounded with a five-game win streak with a win over conference newcomer Mid-Continent. The next two games in the streak were wins at Freed-Hardeman and over NAIA-No. 5 Lambuth University at Moore Gym. Josh Helton’s play was a key part of the Trojans’ five-game win streak, and Helton was honored as the TranSouth Player of the Week.

The streak finished with wins over Top-25 Crichton College and Lyon College. The RedHawks of Martin Methodist gave Trevecca it first home loss and ended the five-game streak. The Trojans ended their four-game winning streak against Union when the No. 22 Bulldogs won in Jackson. The men regained momentum, defeating Bethel College and Mid-Continent each for the second time to improve to 9-4 in the TranSouth.

Moore Gym was filled to the rafters with Moore Maniacs when Cumberland University visited, and the crowd wasn’t disappointed. The game was filled with great plays, and the Trojans worked to come away with a late go-ahead basket, but Cumberland banked in a long three-point shot at the buzzer for the win.

After a bye in the first round, the Trojans found themselves in Pulaski, Tenn. to face fourth-seeded Martin Methodist in a semifinal match up. The Trojans and RedHawks battled for 40 minutes before the home team secured the win.

Collins Onyando was named to the NAIA All-American Team as an honorable mention selection. Trevecca placed Collins Onyando and Josh Helton on the All-TranSouth First Team while Matthew Elliot made the All-Freshman Team. Adam Drake and Chris Harris were named to the TranSouth Scholar Athlete Team. Collins Onyando also set the Trevecca career record for blocks and surpassed the 1,000-point scoring mark this season. Onyando finished the year with 707 career rebounds, an accomplishment that places him ninth all-time at Trevecca.
