JACKSON, Tenn. – NAIA No. 8 Trevecca
(16-4, 2-0) traveled to Jackson, Tenn., continuing conference play
against NAIA No. 11 Union University (11-5, 0-1) on Thursday.
Trevecca opened the game on a 7-0 run, before Union hit a couple of
buckets to cut the lead to 7-4. Trevecca continued to play strong,
eventually building a 12 point lead at 37-25. Union then closed the gap
to six with 4:05 remaining. Josh Helton hit a big 3-point field goal
with 2:09 to go, extending the Trojans lead back to nine at
42-33. The Trojans finished out on a 9-3 run, and at the half,
Trevecca led 48-36.
The second half saw the Trojan lead cut to seven almost immediately out
of the break, but Trevecca rebounded and stretched their lead to 23
with 4:46 to play, thanks to a 19-2 Trevecca run. The Trojans never
looked back from there, running away with it to the tune of 87-65.
Eric Price led the Trojans with 23 points, while Brandon Howard (17),
Josh Helton (15), and Jerod Perry (10) also scored in double figures.
Collins Onyando led the Trojans with five rebounds and 2 blocks, while
Howard led the Trojans with 5 steals and tied for the team lead in assists (3) with Price. As a team Trevecca shot
28-of-48
from the floor (58.3%), 6-of-12 from long range (50%), and 25-of-28
from the charity stripe (89.3%).
