NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
This afternoon’s game between NAIA No. 8 Trevecca (20-5, 4-1) and NAIA
No. 18 Union University (17-7, 4-1) has been suspended and will be
completed at a later date.
The game was suspended with 9:02
remaining in the first half with Trevecca leading 20-14. Trevecca
senior Brandon Howard stole the ball and took the ball towards the
basket. As he came down to the floor he severely injured his ankle.
Howard was on the floor for close to 30 minutes before being taken to a
local hospital.
Several fans were overcome with emotion
and passed out. Both teams and coaching staffs were affected. After a
long delay the Union coaching staff offered for the game to be
suspended. The decision was left to the Trevecca players who decided to
suspend the game.
Trevecca has had a great deal of tragedy
this season. As classes were about to start in the fall Trevecca lost
senior Robert Garrett in a traffic accident as he was returning to
campus from his parents’ Antioch home.
The Trevecca athletic department will
release information regarding the date and time that the game will
resume. Trevecca will travel to Henderson, Tenn. to face Freed-Hardeman
on Thursday at 8 p.m. Trevecca will release further information about
the days other athletic events later today.
