Update: Brandon Howard was taken to Baptist Hospital where he will undergo surgery this evening. A decision on when or if the remainder of the game will be played won't be made until at least Monday.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – This afternoon’s game between NAIA No. 8 Trevecca (20-5, 4-1) and NAIA No. 18 Union University (17-7, 4-1) has been suspended and will be completed at a later date.

The game was suspended with 9:02 remaining in the first half with Trevecca leading 20-14. Trevecca senior Brandon Howard stole the ball and took the ball towards the basket. As he came down to the floor he severely injured his ankle. Howard was on the floor for close to 30 minutes before being taken to a local hospital.

Several fans were overcome with emotion and passed out. Both teams and coaching staffs were affected. After a long delay the Union coaching staff offered for the game to be suspended. The decision was left to the Trevecca players who decided to suspend the game.

Trevecca has had a great deal of tragedy this season. As classes were about to start in the fall Trevecca lost senior Robert Garrett in a traffic accident as he was returning to campus from his parents’ Antioch home.

The Trevecca athletic department will release information regarding the date and time that the game will resume. Trevecca will travel to Henderson, Tenn. to face Freed-Hardeman on Thursday at 8 p.m. Trevecca will release further information about the days other athletic events later today.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca men's basketball team (24-6, 8-2) earned their first ever TranSouth Conference regular season co-championship with a 74-56 win over No. 8 Union University (22-8, 8-2) on.

The game was a continuation of a game that was suspended following an injury to Trevecca's Brandon Howard. The game started at 7 p.m. with Trevecca leading 20-14 with 9:02 remaining in the first half.

Freshman guard Josh Helton led Trevecca with 19 points including 5 three pointers while Eric Price added 13 points and 11 rebounds in the winning effort. Wesley Poe (13) and Alex Renfroe (10) also scored in double-figures for Trevecca.

Union's Corey Burkett led the Bulldogs with 16 points and nine rebounds on the night.

Trevecca shot 47.2% (25 for 53) from the field, 46.7% (7 for 15) from the three point line, and 68.0% (17 for 25) from the free throw line. Union shot 32.1% (18 for 56) from the field, 16.7% (5 for 30) from the three point line, and 71.4% (15 for 21) from the free throw line.
