HENDERSON, Tenn. – NAIA No. 7 Trevecca Trojans
(21-5, 5-1) took on Freed-Hardeman University (8-19, 1-6) in Henderson,
Tennessee on Thursday night for their first game without Brandon Howard.
In the first half, Trevecca took the lead early and
held on to the lead for most of the half and, led by Wes Poe with eight
points and Eric Price with six, the Trojans held the lead at the break
26-25. Trevecca came out of the halftime break playing well and with
12:27 left in the game, Trevecca stretched their lead out to ten at
42-32. With 5:30 to play, Price broke into double digits and gave the
Trojans their largest lead of the game at 55-38, and from there
Trevecca pulled away to the win 66-49.
Jerod Perry led the Trojans with 19 points, while
Price (11) and Poe (10) were also in double figures. Alex Renfroe paced
the Trojans with nine boards, and was tied for the team lead with three
steals. Collins Onyando had four blocks to lead the Trojans, and Josh
Helton chipped in three assists. As a team, Trevecca shot 27-of-61
(44.3%) from the floor, 5-of-18 (27.8%) from deep, and 7-of-15 (46.7%)
from the foul line.
