Trevecca (21-6, 5-2) hosted conference foe Martin Methodist College
(12-17, 2-5) on Saturday, falling to the RedHawks 77-76 in overtime.
Trevecca took the early lead, but Martin battled back and took a five
point lead into the half, 37-32. Trevecca came out and played hard in
the second half, taking the lead several times in the half, but they
found themselves behind 69-68 with 14.2 seconds left when Collins
Onyando was fouled and tied the game from the line. Trevecca had a
chance to win it in regulation, but Alex Renfroe’s under-handed runner
at the buzzer fell harmlessly off to the side. In overtime, Trevecca
took a 74-71 lead, but Mrtin Methodist hit two three-point field goals
to take the lead 77-74. Trevecca had the ball for the final 42 seconds,
but could not get a three to fall, eventually settling for an Eric
Price lay-up with .6 seconds left. Martin inbounded the ball and the
clock expired, sending the Trojans down to defeat.
Wes Poe led the Trojans with 22 points and 12 rebounds, and Onyando
added a double-double of his own with 13 points and 10 boards. Eric
Price scored 17 points, and Josh Helton had 16 points in the loss. Alex
Renfroe had five assists to lead Trevecca, and Onyando had a team high
two blocks in the game. As a team, Trevecca shot 27-of-64 (42.2%) from
the floor, 6-of-27 (22.2%) from deep, and 16-of-34 (47.1%) from the
foul line.
