MOORE GYM - Trevecca (16-13, 7-7) secured a tie for third place in the TranSouth with an 85-77 win over Lyon College (17-13, 7-7) in the regular season finale. Trevecca started the conference season 0-5 and were 9-11 overall heading into February. Since then, the Trojans have won seven of their last nine games and the last five in a row to gain a share of third in the final standings. Curtis Lewis scored a season high 33 points and tied the school record for made three-point baskets in a game with eight.

Trevecca started the game with an 18-6 run, but Lyon rallied to tie the game at 20 apiece with a 14-2 run. Lyon tied the game seven times in the first half, but could never take the lead. Trevecca led 43-41 at the half on the shoulders of Curtis Lewis' six first half three-pointers.

In the second, Trevecca began to pull away early on. Trevecca held a 12 point advantage twice in the game, once in each half. The 12 point advantage in the second half came with the Trojans leading 61-49 with 9:09 remaining. Though the Trojans couldn't completely shake the Scots, Lyon never pulled closer than six points the remainder of the game. Trevecca sealed the victory down the stretch with great free-throw shooting, primarily Curtis Lewis' perfect 7-for-7 from the line.

Curtis Lewis led Trevecca with 33 point, three rebounds, and three assists. Lewis hit 9-of-13 from the field, 8-of-11 from three-point range, and 7-of-7 from the foul line. His eight three-point baskets ties the school record for made three-point baskets in a game held by Craig Grider (twice), David Suddeth, and Dan Muchmore. David Stark led the team with 13 rebounds and finished with a block and seven points. Brandon Howard scored 12, dished out eight assists and had seven steals. Eric Price scored 11 and grabbed six rebounds. Robert Garrett had 11 points, four assists and three steals.

As a team, Trevecca shot 51.9% (28-54) from the field, 64.3% (9-14) from three-point range, and 74.1% (20-27) from the foul line. Trevecca won the battle of the boards 33-32 and forced 18 turnovers with 13 steals. Trevecca scored 12 fastbreak points to three for Lyon.

Fifth seeded Trevecca will face fourth seeded Freed-Hardeman in Henderson on Thursday, March 11 at 7 p.m.

TranSouth Tournament, @ Freed Thursday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca finished the regular season tied for third in the TranSouth, but will enter the TranSouth Tournament as the fifth seed due to the tie-breaker system. Trevecca, Lyon, and Freed-Hardeman all finished the regular season 7-7 in TranSouth play. The tie-breaker starts with head-to-head play, and then moves to each team's record against conference foes from the top down. Each team split the season series with the other two teams, thus the second tie-breaker factor was put into play. Lyon won the tie-breaker with the other TNU and FHU by virtue of a win over conference champ Cumberland. Freed won the fourth-seed tie-breaker with Trevecca with their sweep of sixth place Martin Methodist. Trevecca will travel to Henderson, Tenn. to play fourth-seed Freed-Hardeman.

Cumberland won the conference regular season title and the automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament. The rest of the conference finished as follows: 2 Union University, 3 Lyon-Trevecca-Freed, 6 Martin Methodist, 7 Berry, 8 Lee. In other tournament games Thursday, Lee will visit Cumberland, Berry will visit Union, Martin Methodist will visit Lyon, and Trevecca will visit Freed.
