LEBANON, Tenn. - Fifth-seeded Trevecca (17-14) fell to regular season TranSouth Champion and the conference tournament's number one seed Cumberland University (27-4) in Lebanon, Tenn. on Saturday by a final score of 79-76. In the third meeting between the two school's this season, Trevecca gained momentum early with a small lead. Despite falling into foul trouble with post player Eric Price being whistled for three fouls in the first half, the Trojans took a 38-29 lead into the locker room at halftime. The second half saw Price comeback with a solid seven point, seven rebound performance despite playing with four fouls for most of the half. Cumberland, however, showed why their the No. 6 team in the NAIA, outscoring the Trojans by 12 points in the second half. Cumberland took a 77-73 lead with under a minute to play, but junior Brandon Howard hit a key three pointer to bring the game to within one point. The three pointer was the closest the Trojans would get, however, as the Bulldogs held on for the 79-76 victory. Junior Brandon Howard led the Trojans with 20 points and 10 assists hitting 6 of 7 from the free throw line. Fellow junior Wesley Poe tallied 17 points and 10 rebounds for his ninth double double of the season while senior Curtis Lewis added 15 points and junior Robert Garrett scored 10 points. Leroy Hickerson led the scoring for Cumberland with 23 points and nine rebounds in the winning effort.
