MARIETTA, Ga. – Trevecca (8-0) faced
Shorter College (3-2) in the Southern Polytechnic Classic on Saturday
after upsetting No. 11 and previously undefeated Southern Polytechnic
on Friday.
In the first half, Wes Poe scored 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, with 4
boards and 4 assists, and Josh Helton scored 14 points on 5-of-7
shooting including 4-of-6 from deep and had two steals, leading the
Trojans to the half with a 21 point lead of 54-33. The second
half went much the same way, as the Trojans stretched the lead,
building a final margin of victory of 106-79.
Five Trojans finished the game in double figures, Helton with 23
points, Jerod Perry with 17 including three three-point field goals,
Poe with 13, Brandon Howard with 11, and Marcos Salvi with 10.
Adam Asberry, in his first action as a Trojan, knocked down 3-of-5
three-pointers, dropping nine points in just under 11 minutes of
play. As a team Trevecca shot 39-of-64 (60.9 %) from the field,
13-of-24 (54.2 %) from behind the arc, and 15-of-17 (88.2%) from the
charity stripe.
