DAYTONA, Fla. --- The Trojans (3-2) lost in the opening round of the Trip Sports Invitational to host Embry-Riddle College in Daytona, Florida. Trevecca led by 20 (61-41) points with 14:36 to go, but lost the lead under a staunch defense and fell 72-71. Embry-Riddle's Jonathan Gill hit a three-pointer with 5 seconds remaining to give the Eagles the win. Embry-Riddle overcame an 11-point deficit with 3:34 remaining sparked by sophomore Ben Witherspoon who connected on a three-pointer at 2:52 to cut the lead to 71-65. Then following a turnover by Curtis Lewis and a foul by Elliott Cowart and then Cowart argued the call and was given a technical foul. Witherspoon responded hitting 3-of-4 free throws to make it a three-point game with 2:17.

Three of the starting five for Trevecca fouled out of the contest including leading scorer Curtis Lewis, Elliott Cowart and David Stark.

Trevecca led 46-35 at the half, but were outscored 37-25 in the second half. Embry Riddle scored 27 point off of turnovers compared to 17 for Trevecca and had 24 second half points compared to Trevecca's 12.

Trevecca shot 50% from the field, 42% (5-12) from three-point range, and 61.5% (8-13) from the foul line. Trevecca won the battle of the boards 41-37, but had 21 turnovers. 

Curtis Lewis led Trevecca with 17 points while Elliot Cowart (15) and Wes Poe (10) scored in double figures as well. Poe led the team with 9 rebounds, Brandon Howard in assists with 6, Eric Price in blocks with 2.

Savannah College of Art and Design defeated Daemen College (N.Y.) 80-62 to advance to the Trip Sports Invitational, thus the title game will be Embry-Riddle vs. SCAD and Daemen (5-2) vs. Trevecca in the consolation game at 5:00 p.m.
