NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA no. 10 Trevecca (12-2) faced Tennessee Temple University (6-6) on Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
For much of the first half, Tennessee Temple held the lead, but Josh
Helton had 12 in the first half, and Jerod Perry added nine of his own
to push the Trojan halftime lead to eight at 44-36. The second half saw
the Trojans pull out early to widen the gap to as many as 12 before
Tennessee Temple began to claw back thanks to some quick three-point
shooting, cutting the lead to six at one point. Trevecca was able
to hold on, however, stretching the final margin of victory to 88-73.
Wes Poe (16 pts. 10 reb.) and Collins Onyando (11 pts. 11 reb.) both
posted double-doubles for Trevecca, while the other three Trojans
starters, Josh Helton (23), Jerod Perry (11), and Brandon Howard (11)
all scored in double figures. Onyando had three blocks, Howard
chipped in 8 assists, and Alex Renfroe had three steals in the Trojan
victory. Trevecca shot 26-of-52 from the floor (50%) 9-of-22 from
behind the arc (40.9%), and 27-of-38 (71.1%) from the charity stripe.
