Trevecca (13-2) faced Belhaven College (5-3) of Jackson, Miss. on New
Years Eve in the final game of the Trojan Boosters Endowment Classic.
The first half saw the Trojans and Blazers exchange runs, as the
Trojans started off with a 7-2 lead, Belhaven answered with a 10-3 run,
and the Trojans countered that with a 9-2 run of their own. The game
was close for most of the remainder of the half, until Brandon Howard
and Jerod Perry took control, helping Trevecca to a 46-35 halftime
edge. The second half saw the Trojans take over early, but Belhaven
clawed their way back into the game. But Trevecca responded strong,
hitting their free throws down the stretch, sealing the game for a
77-65 Trojan win.
Perry led the Trojans with 17 points, Wes Poe chipped in his fourth
double-double of the season (15 pts. 10 reb.), Brandon Howard had 11
points, and Josh Helton dropped 11 of his own in the win. Howard led
the Trojans with six assists and four steals, while Collins Onyando,
the Buzz Sheridan player of the game with eight points on 4-of-4
shooting, led Trevecca with two blocks. The Trojans shot 28-of-58
from the floor (48.3%), 6-of-17 from deep (35.3%), and 15-of-23 from
the charity stripe (65.2%)
