The Trevecca women's basketball team entered the 2004-05 season on an uphill climb. After the efforts of Head Coach Julie van Beek and Assistant Coaches Luis del Rio and Dick Bess led the Trojans to a fifth consecutive NAIA Tournament appearance last season, the team was forced to begin a new season with one senior and only eight available players on the roster. Two Trojans, Jackie Weaver and Jaime Luke, missed the first month of the season while they recovered from injuries. Expectations remained high, no Trojan fan or critic, however, realized how high the Trevecca women's basketball team would shatter those preseason expectations.

Playing with the limited bench, Trevecca managed two wins to open the season, but then dropped four straight games including to then NAIA No. 14 Georgetown College and then NAIA No. 1 Southern Nazarene. With a 2-4 record, the Trojans responded with seven straight wins, five of them coming on the road, and entered TranSouth Conference regular season play with a 9-5 overall record.

In January, Trevecca opened TranSouth Conference play with a full roster but suffered a heart-breaking overtime loss to then NAIA No. 15 University at home. After a slim three point victory over Martin Methodist on the road, the Trojans traveled to Jackson, Tenn. for a big Trevecca victory. On the road, the then NAIA No. 21 Trojans soundly defeated then NAIA No. 1 and previously undefeated Union University 74-64 with junior Jackie Weaver tallying 13 points, 14 rebounds, and six blocks in the game.

Four games and three wins later, Trevecca defeated Blue Mountain at home with freshman Mariska Reed scoring 29 points and breaking a Trevecca record with 15 free throws made in one game. After the win, the Trojans took two more impressive conference road victories. Then ranked NAIA No. 18, the  Trojans grabbed a 91-56 blowout win over then NAIA No. 13 Cumberland University with junior Ashlie Gilland erupting for 27 points including five three-pointers. Two games later, Trevecca defeated then NAIA No. 4 Freed-Hardeman on the road in a 69-56 upset.

The victory began a four game win streak that would carry the Trojans into postseason play with a 19-8 overall record. Trevecca's 9-3 record in conference play was good enough for a second place finish in TranSouth Conference regular season play, the best finish in Trevecca women's basketball history. During the regular season, the Trojans set a new milestone for themselves and the TranSouth Conference as the team went undefeated on the road in conference play and finished the regular season 12-3 on the road.

In postseason play, Trevecca made quick work of Martin Methodist College in the first round of the TranSouth Conference Tournament with a 75-62 win, but then fell to NAIA No. 7 Union University 66-65 in the conference semi-finals. Despite the loss, the team entered the 2005 NAIA National Tournament as a No. 3 seed with a 20-9 overall record.

Jackson, Tennessee hosted what would come to be an unforgettable NAIA D-I Women's Basketball National Tournament for Trevecca. In the first round, the Trojans squeaked by a physical Cumberland College squad with a 71-68 win over the NAIA's No. 21 ranked team. The win propelled Trevecca into the Sweet 16 Round for only the second time in Trevecca women's basketball history.

In the Sweet 16, Trevecca faced off against NAIA No. 8 Southern Nazarene University. Having previously lost to SNU earlier in the season, Trevecca avenged the regular season loss with an NAIA Tournament win. The Trojans led by as much as 19 points and pulled away for an 80-64 win with junior Ashley Gilland scoring a tournament high 32 points.

In the NAIA's Elite Eight, the Trojans' season finally ended with a 71-62 loss to NAIA No. 3 Oklahoma City University. The Elite Eight appearance was the team's furthest journey ever into the NAIA National Tournament.

With Trevecca's regular season and postseason success, the Trojans earned an unprecendented number of postseason awards.

Junior Jackie Weaver, in only her first season with Trevecca, was named to the NAIA All-American Second Team and was also named TranSouth Conference Newcomer of the Year and a member of the All-TranSouth First Team. After playing only one year with Trevecca, Weaver broke both the season and career blocks records with 91 blocks. Weaver made a clean sweep of Trevecca blocks records as she also holds the record with eight blocks in one game.

Junior Ashley Gilland joined Weaver on the All-TranSouth First Team and was also named to the NAIA All-Tournament Team. Gilland also was placed on the NAIA All-American Third Team. Gilland broke two season shooting records hitting 49.5% from the three point line and 83.5% from the free throw line.

Trevecca junior Jana Reed was the third Trojan named to the All-TranSouth First Team while freshman Mariska Reed earned TranSouth All-Freshman Team honors. Mariska Reed broke school records with 15 made free throws in a game and 110 made free throws on the year.

Candice McCool, Kristin Scoggins, and Amy Hutchins were all named to the TranSouth All-Academic Team. Scoggins was also placed on the NAIA All-Academic Team. Scoggins saw a whopping 1,176 minutes of playing time this season shattering the old record by 148 minutes.

The Trojans broke three records as a team this year. Against Blue Mountain, Trevecca recorded 11 blocks breaking the previous game record of eight and blocked 140 shots this year, a season record. Trevecca also broke a season record shooting 76.2% from the free throw line.

With the broken records, high winning percentage, postseason awards, and Elite Eight appearance, the Trevecca women's basketball team continued a tradition of success during the 2004-05 season that has come to be an annual performance of the Trevecca women's basketball program.
