Trevecca (9-4) traveled to Campbellsville, Ky. to take on
Campbellsville University (7-8) on Thursday evening, coming away with
the 79-77 win.
In the first half, Trevecca fell behind early, with the Lady Tigers
mounting an 11-2 run out of the gate, but Trevecca clawed their way
back into it, led by Ashlie Gilland’s red hot three-point
shooting. Gilland had 13 points at the break, and Trevecca held
the lead at the half 35-30. In the second half, the Lady Trojans kept
rolling, eventually widening their lead to 79-64 late in the game, but
Campbellsville did not wuit, mounting a 13-0 run which fell just short,
as Trevecca held on for their seventh win in a row.
Julia Machalela led the Lady Trojans with 20 points, while Jackie
Weaver (16) and Ashlie Gilland were also in double figures. Jana
Reed grabbed a team high six rebounds, and Mariska Reed had four
assists. Three Lady Trojans (Machalela, Mariska Reed, and
Kristin Scoggins) tied for the team lead with three steals. As a
team, Trevecca shot 34-of-61 from the field (55.7%), 6-of-13 from
behind the arc (46.2%), and 5-of-7 from the charity stripe (71.4%).
