PULASKI, Tenn. - NAIA No. 22 Trevecca (10-6, 1-1) visited Martin
Methodist (4-14, 0-2) today and picked up their first TranSouth victory
63-60.
The Lady Trojans started off slow trailing most of the first half but
came back strong going into half time tied at 28. Midway through the
second half Martin Methodist took their largest lead of the game 45-37.
Things started to look down for Trevecca as Jana Reid fouled out with
five minutes left on the clock. With less than four minutes to go in
the game Ashlie Gilland hit two back-to-back 3-pointers that sparked an
8-2 run for Trevecca cutting Martin Methodist’s lead to 53-51. The Lady
Trojans continued to trail until Mariska Reid hit a three with 12.9
seconds left in the game giving Trevecca the 61-60 lead. After a
turnover by the Lady Red Hawks, Trevecca gained possession of the ball
and claimed the 63-60 victory.
Jackie Weaver and Mariska Reid both led the team in scoring with 15
points each. Weaver also had 13 rebounds and four blocked shots. Jana
Reid added 12 points. The Lady Trojans shot 23-55 (41.8%) from the
field, 7-17 (41.2%) from behind the arc, and 10-15 (66.7%) from the
foul line.
