HENDERSON, Tenn. –The Lady Trojans
(16-8, 6-3) returned to action on Thursday for a key TranSouth
Conference match up with NAIA No. 4 Freed-Hardeman University (23-6, 8-1).
Trevecca stormed out of the gate, mounting a 13-0 run in the first
seven minutes of the game and, led by the nine points from both Jana
Reed and Ashlie Gilland, the Lady Trojans went to the break up 26-14.
Freed clawed their way back into the game in the second half, cutting
to Lady Trojan lead to seven with seven minutes remaining, but the Lady
Trojans would not be denied, winning for the first time ever in
Henderson, Tenn. over the Lady Lions 69-56.
Gilland paced the Lady Trojans with 15 points, Jana Reed and Mariska
Reed each had 12, and Julia Machalela chipped 11 of her own in the win.
Jackie Weaver had nine points, a team high 12 boards, and tied with
Kristin Scoggins for the team lead in assists with four. Weaver and Amy
Hutchins each had two blocks. As a team, the Lady Trojans shot 21-of-43
(48.8%) from the floor, 1-of-9 (11.1%) from behind the three-point
line, and 26-of-31 (83.9%) from the foul line.
