BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – NAIA No. 14
Trevecca (19-8, 9-3) finished their best TranSouth Conference regular
season ever with a win at Blue Mountain College (10-13, 3-8) on
Saturday.
The 86-63 win gave the Trojans sole possession of second place in the
final TranSouth Conference regular season standings, the team’s highest
finish ever. Trevecca also finished undefeated (6-0) on the road in
conference play for the first time in school history.
Trevecca’s Jackie Weaver led the game with a 23 point, eight rebound
performance. Weaver also set the career blocks record during the game.
Weaver has 69, two better than Molly Schoenberg’s record 67. Jana Reed,
who finished with 19 points and four rebounds, scored 15 points in the
first half alone. Mariska Reed (13 points) and Kristin Scoggins (11
points) each contributed with double figure scoring. Trevecca’s Jaime
Luke started in place of injured Julia Machalela and led the Trojans
with 11 rebounds. Blue Mountain’s Sheree McDowell led the Toppers with
15 points and six rebounds in the losing effort.
As a team Trevecca hit 24-of-53 (45.3%) from the field, 2-of-9 (22.2%)
from beyond the three point line, and 36-of-41 (87.8%) from the foul
line. Trevecca out rebounded the Toppers 45-39. Trevecca held Blue
Mountain to just 19-of-66 (28.8%) from the field, 5-of-27 (18.5%) from
three-point range, and 20-of-28 (71.4%) from the line.
Trevecca will host Martin Methodist (6-26, 0-12) for a first round TranSouth tournament game on Tuesday, March 1 at 7 p.m.
