NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 14
Trevecca (20-8, 9-3) defeated Martin Methodist (6-27, 0-12) in the
first round of the TranSouth Tournament 75-62.
In the first half the Trojans started off slow until a 10-0 Trevecca
run highlighted by an Amy Hutchins 3-pointer gave the Trojans a 22-9
lead with 11:29 to go in the half. Trevecca took a 33-28 lead into
halftime. The second half saw the Martin Methodist RedHawks tie the
game at 37-37, but Trevecca went on a 14-2 run to take a 51-39 lead and
eventually run away with the 75-62 win.
Trevecca’s Jackie Weaver led all scoring with 23 points and 10 rebounds
while Jana Reed (12), Kristin Scoggins (12), and Mariska Reed (10) also
added double-figure scoring. Martin Methodist’s Jessica Ezell tallied
21 points in the losing effort.
The Trojans shot 44.4% (32 for 72) from the field, 23.1% (3 for 13)
from the three point line and 88.9% (8 for 9) from the free throw line
while Martin Methodist shot 35.6% (21 for 59) from the field, 35.7% (10
for 28) from the three point line, and 76.9% (10 for 13) from the free
throw line.
The Trevecca women’s basketball team remained ranked NAIA No. 14 in the final NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll released Tuesday.
With the win, the second seeded and NAIA No. 14 Trojans advance to the
Semifinal Round of the TranSouth Conference Tournament and will host
third seeded and No. 7 Union University on Friday, March 4, 2005 at 7
p.m.
