NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NAIA No. 14 Trevecca (20-9) ended their TranSouth
Tournament run with a loss to Union University (30-4) in the TranSouth
Conference Tournament Semi-Finals by a final score of 66-65.
Union started the game off with a 6-0 run and led for most of the first
half. The Lady Trojans battled back to take a one point lead 29-28 with
2:49 left in the half and led by as much as five points before taking a
36-34 Trevecca lead into halftime.
With 16:26 left in the second half, Union reclaimed the lead with an
8-0 run. The Lady Bulldogs lead by as much as 10 points before Trevecca
once again battled back to within three points and trailed 63-60 with
3:58 left in the ballgame. Trevecca pulled to within one point of Union
but a Mariska Reed jumper as time expired fell short and gave Union the
66-65 win.
Trevecca played the entire game without two starters. Senior guard
Julia Machalela and junior forward Ashley Gilland both sat out due to
post-concussion symptoms suffered in previous games.
Jackie Weaver led Trevecca once again with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and
six blocks. Jana Reed contributed with a double-double performance of
16 points and 11 rebounds while Mariska Reed added 10 points. Stephanie
Clark led Union with 14 points and seven rebounds.
