JACKSON, Tenn. – The Trevecca women’s basketball team (22-10) saw their season come to a close with a 71-62 loss to Oklahoma City (31-6) in the Quarterfinals of the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament Saturday.

“I think in fairness to our kids, they’re a great team,” Trevecca Head Coach Julie van Beek said. “When you have so little time to prepare, it’s hard. Had we had a couple of days to practice, it may have been a different story.”

Playing in their third game in three days, the third seeded Trevecca Trojans began the game with a 7-2 run capped by an Ashlie Gilland three pointer. Oklahoma City, a number one seed, quickly countered to tie the game at 8-8 with 14:46 left in the first half. The first half saw seven ties and nine lead changes before Oklahoma City took a 38-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, Oklahoma City built up a 19 point lead with 13:11 left in the game and the Trojans never came within less than nine points of the Stars as Oklahoma City took the 71-62 loss.

Ashlie Gilland led the Trojans for the third consecutive game with 19 points and six steals. Jackie Weaver added 11 points and nine rebounds. Sy Miriam tallied 17 points and seven rebounds for Oklahoma City in the winning effort.

Trevecca shot 46.0% (23-of-50) from the field, 35.3% (6-of-17) from the three point line, and 71.4% (10-of-14) from the free throw line. Oklahoma City shot 50.9% (27-of-53) from the field, 27.3% (3-of-11) from the three point line, and 73.7% (14-of-19) from the free throw line. Trevecca turned the ball over 28 times in the contest.

The loss ends Trevecca’s season with a 22-10 record. The Trojans reached the NAIA Quarterfinal round for the first time in the school’s nine year program.
