GEORGETOWN, Ky. - On Friday Trevecca
(2-1) lost to NAIA Division II No. 8 Shawnee State (4-0) 69-62.
Trevecca led for the entire first half and held a 29-19 lead with four
minutes to go in the first half. Shawnee State rallied with a 22-2 run
that extended into the second half and resulted in a 41-31 lead.
Trevecca held a slim 31-29 lead at the break.
Trevecca closed the game to 45-41, but Shawnee State was able to
rebuild their lead and actually held a 68-52 lead with three minutes
remaining. Trevecca closed the game to seven as the buzzer sounded and
the Bears claimed the 69-62 victory over the Trojans.
Jana Reed led Trevecca with 9 rebounds and added 12 points. Ashlie
Gilland led the Trojans with 17 points and three steals. Kristin
Scoggins had 10 points, six rebounds and two steals. Mariska Reed
scored 11 points and led the team with two assists.
Trevecca hit 20 of 49 (40.8%) from the field, 6 of 17 (35.3%) from
three point range, and 16 of 22 free throws. Trevecca had 10 offensive
rebounds and 18 defensive rebounds and 28 total rebounds. Shawnee State
had 39 team rebounds.
On Saturday Trevecca will face host No. 14 Georgetown College (1-0) on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The next home games will be in the State Farm Challenge on November
19-20. Trevecca will play Lee on Friday, November 19 at 7 p.m. and NAIA
No. 1 Southern Nazarene on Saturday, November 20 at 4 p.m.
