During the 2006-2007 fall season, the roster fell below the minimum number of players allowed to compete as a team, and Coach Wilson was limited to entering his players in competition as individuals. The spring season showed promise as the team rallied to earn the respect of many teams in the TranSouth Conference. The team finished 7th place finish in the Region XI Tournament. It was the squad’s best finish in school history at the regional tournament.

“Starting the season with only two players and building showed that our guys could persevere through a lot of adversity,” states second-year Head Coach Robbie Wilson.

Trojan Will Scism, who enters his junior season, had the third best season since the program was restarted in the fall of 1999, finishing with a 79.1 scoring average. Scism’s playoff victory at the Martin Methodist Redhawk Invitational marked the first time since the program was restarted that a Trojan had secured a tournament’s medalist honor.

Other achievements throughout last season include the following:

• David King, Edward Yu: All-TranSouth Conference Team
• Edward Yu: won the Trevecca/Martin Methodist Challenge (by six shots)
• David King: 10th at NAIA Region XI Tournament (school-record highest finish)

The 2007-2008 version of Trevecca Golf adds six newcomers to the program five of which are freshmen.

Cody Woods, Centerville, Tennessee, Jordan Dyer, Old Hickory, Tennessee, Rece Martin, Ashland, Kentucky, Bobby Humburg, Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Grant Moffett, San Diego, California, combine to form the most talented recruiting class in school history.

Coach Wilson believes this class will provide a turning point for the history of the program.

“Signing five quality freshmen student-athletes really puts this program on the map. Their impression on this program will be felt for many years to come,” an enthusiastic Coach Wilson says.

Wilson is also very optimistic about the return of sophomore Josh Fields to the program. Fields, a member of the Marine Corps, took a year off from school and golf in order to serve his country in Iraq.

“I think our players have the utmost respect for Josh and what he has been through during the past year,” says Coach Wilson. “Josh is a born leader, and we are very lucky to have him in return to our program.”

Those six players add to an already solid nucleus that includes seniors Edward Yu and Matt Carpenter, junior Will Scism, and sophomore Clifton Smith. Their experience last season will be critical to the Trojans’ getting off to a fast start in the fall.

The future looks very bright for the Trevecca Golf Program. Early season tournaments at Union University and Berry College will provide a good measuring stick for how far this program has come in the past year. After a tough fall schedule the team should be ready to spread its wings in the spring season.
