Joel Butts begins his second season as a men's soccer assistant coach under head coach Jeff Carr. Prior to Trevecca, Coach Butts served as Frendship Christian School (FCS) coach since their inaugural season in 2001. He also served as assistant coach under Coach Jeff Carr while at Donelson Christian Academy (DCA). Prior to this, Coach Butts founded the collegiate program at Lipscomb University in 1991. Coach Butts has been involved with several local camps including Frans Van Balkom's TNT Elite Soccer School, the Jogo Bonito Soccer Institute, and Big Save Goalkeeper Seminars. 

Coach Butts played collegiately as the goalkeeper at Averett College of Danville, Virginia. Averett was consistently ranked in the top 10 of NCAA D-III during the early 80's, peaking at number three during his sophomore season when he was the starting goalkeeper, posting a 0.987 goals allowed per match average.

Coach Butts has 21 years of coaching experience and is USSF certified with a D License.

Coach Butts has lived in Nashville since 1985.  He and his wife Linda have been married since 1991 and have two children, Emily, and Ethan.
