Luis Del Rio, now in his third season on the Trevecca softball staff, is a volunteer assistant coach. Del Rio, a 1969 graduate of Belmont College, brings more than 30 years of work experience with female athletes at both the high school and college ranks.
Del Rio is no stranger to Trevecca where he served seven years as the top assistant for the Trojan women’s basketball team. During his tenure as assistant, the basketball team went to the national tournament on six consecutive years and reached the sweet sixteen in 2000 and the elite eight in 2005.
Coach Del Rio and his wife, Mary Lou, have donated many hours to the Trevecca athletic department and community, contributions that have won them respect and appreciation. This season he will oversee the Champions of Character Program, assist in game day operations, and will serve in many other capacities for the softball team.
