TranSouth Player of the Week: Joe Shrum

Trevecca began its second season of men’s soccer with much anticipation. A new on-campus soccer facility and a bevy of talented newcomers brought much hope for a good season.

Trevecca struggled in the early season, but earned its first victory over Fisk 3-0. The Trojans posted two more wins as the season progressed. The Trojans defeated TranSouth Conference-member Freed-Hardeman 1-0, and they won 2-1 over Asbury College in their last game of the season. The Trojans also played Berea College to a 1-1 tie. Trevecca finished the 2001 season with an overall record of 3-14-1.

Goalie Joe Shrum garnered TranSouth Player of the Week honors during the season for the Trojans. Esteban Gonzalez was voted the Most Improved Player, and senior Roger Corle was awarded the Coaches Award, given to the player who by his attitude, physical ability, dedication, Christian testimony, and consistency provided Christian leadership to the team for the entire season. Charlie Hall was selected as the Most Inspirational Player, and Jonathan Strickland was named the Most Valuable Player. Derek Hamer and Roger Corle were presented with Senior Certificates.

The 2001 Trevecca Men’s Soccer team displayed toughness and tenacity all season long. Coach Herod and his talented group of returning players look forward to the off-season so that they can work hard to improve upon their mark off last season.
