Trevecca had its most successful season ever and also its highest win total in 2002. The Trojans finished with an 8-7-3 record and also earned their first ever trip to the TranSouth Conference Tournament.
The Trojans earned a 0-0 tie against #12 Berry in one of their best games of the season. Trevecca posted its first two wins of the season over Freed-Hardeman and Lyon. In the Trojans very next game they earned one of their biggest victories ever with 1-0 defeat of conference rival Union University. Trevecca went on to win its next three games over Huntingdon, LaGrange, and Fisk to complete its longest-ever win streak at 6 games.
The Trojans rounded out the regular season with another victory over Fisk and also earned a forfeit victory over North Greenville College. In the first round of the TranSouth Tournament the Trojans fought hard, but succumbed to Lee University 5-3
Not only did the Trojans have their most successful season ever, but they also had two players who earned region player-of-the-week honors. Vinnie Bhaskar was named the Region XI player of the week as well as the TranSouth conference player of the week for the last week in September. Bhaskar had two goals each in wins against Freed-Hardeman and Lyon. Mauricio Dos Santos won the Region XI and TranSouth player of the week for the first week in October. Dos Santos scored Trevecca’s only goal against Union, recorded Trevecca’s first ever hat trick against Huntingdon, and added two more goals in a win over LaGrange. Dos Santos was also named to the all conference first team for the season.
Trevecca posted three players on the All Transouth Conference team. Mauricio Dos Santos was named to the first team, and Matt Hurst and Mariano Monzu were named to the second team. The Trojans also excelled in the classroom as they had one player earn NAIA Academic All American honors and nine players earn All Transouth Academic honors. Junior Aaron Reynolds, a math education major from Oakland City, IN posted a 3.56 GPA to earn NAIA Academic All American honors. Senior, Jonathan Stricklin, Juniors Esteban Gonzalez, Dean Ward, Aaron Reynolds, and Jonathan Duranceau, and Sophomores Gonzalo Elorza, Mariano Monzu, Paolo Couto, and Adam Hill were all named to the All TranSouth Academic team.
The team scored as many goals this year as the two previous years combined, 34. The Trojans gave up 69 goals in 2000 53 in 2001 and just 16 in 2002. The team posted eight shutouts and four other games with only one goal; 16 goals allowed in 17 games for a .94 goal against average. Junior goalkeeper Joe Shrum allowed 13 goals in 15 games for a .87 goals per game average.
Team awards included Most Valuable Player Sophomore Mariano Monzu and Most Inspirational Player, tie between Seniors Matt Hurst and Jonathan Stricklin. The Coach's Award was given to junior defender Esteban Gonzales.
