Coming into the 2005-2006 season Trevecca women’s soccer coach Mark Champion knew this team was the best in the six-year history of the soccer program at Trevecca. With only two seniors on the team, the Trojans were able to post the best mark ever by winning eight games.

Trevecca started the season with six road games, including a season opening 3-0 victory over Bryan College. The team traveled to MidAmerica Nazarene University and split a pair of tournament games. As September came to an end, Trevecca hosted its first home game as part of a six-game home stand and was victorious against Asbury College. The Trojans picked up three wins, including Coach Champion’s first home win of his collegiate coaching career.

The Trojans started conference play with a win against TranSouth newcomer Crichton College with a crucial 3-0 shutout, one that would later prove to be the edge that gave Trevecca their third-place conference finish. The team produced two more victories against conference foes Union and Freed-Hardeman and headed into the conference tournament as the No. 3 seed. The three conference wins are a record for the Trevecca women’s soccer program.

For the second year in a row, Trevecca opened with Cumberland University in the semifinal and saw its season end with a 4-1 loss. Sophomore Courtney Haas scored the first post-season goal in Trevecca history. The team finished their season with the most wins in school history and an 8-10-1 overall and 3-3 TranSouth record.

Trevecca women’s soccer team earned several postseason awards with this record- breaking season. Senior Kelsey Shockey received All-TranSouth First Team honors and freshman Ashley Holloway was honored with the selection to the TranSouth All-Tournament Team.

The Trevecca women’s soccer team plans to continue this season’s progress next year. Two will graduate, but fourteen players will return, and they will bring with them valuable playing experience gained during the best season in the program’s first six seasons.

Kelsey Shockey was named the TranSouth Conference Player of the Week for the week ending October 16, 2005. The 5-foot-5 senior defender from Franklin, Tennessee, scored two first half goals to lead the Trojans to a 2-1 victory over Union University on October 15. The victory moved TNU to third place in conference play at 2-1. The two goals also moved Shockey into fifth place on the Trojan’s all-time points leaders’ list.

Courtney Haas, Lilian Mwangi, Heather Olson, Anne Opana, and Kelsey Shockey all made the TranSouth Scholar Athlete list this season.

With only two seniors leaving and another strong recruiting class on the horizon, the women’s soccer team will be looking to work hard in the off-season to bring even more success to the Trevecca campus in the future.

Individual Career Milestones
Heather Olson, sophomore from Mt. Juliet, is third on the Career Goal list with 12 goals and trails only Karen Francis (25) and Tori Sanchez (19). Olson is also third on the Career Points list with 29 points and trails only Karen Francis (57) and Tori Sanchez (44).
