TUCSON, Ariz. – Trevecca (10-0) is
playing in the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational for spring break and won
another two games on Tuesday.
In the first game of the day Holly Shane (8-0) threw her sixth complete
game of the year and her first shutout with 11-0 victory over Park
University. Maria Trapani caught the game and Ashley McCool had all the
offense needed for the win. McCool was 3-for-4 with two home runs,
three RBI, and three runs scored. Trevecca scored three in the second
inning, one in the third, three in the fifth, and four more in the
sixth. Trevecca pounded out 15 hits and committed just one error. Park
had five hits and four errors. Park dropped to 2-5 on the year as Holly
Gentry (0-4) took the loss.
In the second game Trevecca found themselves down 4-0 through four
innings of play. Trevecca answered with six runs in the top of the
fifth inning to take the lead and then secured the win with three runs
in the top of the sixth. Peru State added two more in the bottom of the
seventh, but Trevecca claimed the victory 9-6. For Peru State it was
their first loss of the season after posting five consecutive wins to
start the year. Jami Toomey started on the mound and was relieved by
Jennifer Perkins in the fourth. Perkins (2-0) picked up the win and
Holly Shane secured the victory by pitching the seventh and picking up
her second save of the year. Lindsey Howard caught the first three
innings before being relieved by Maria Trapani in the fourth. Ashley
McCool continued to hold a hot bat and produced another 3-for-4
performance and added three more RBI and had a double. Jodie Reimer was
also 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and stolen base. Kristina Buhrman
(2-1) took the loss for Peru State.
Trevecca will take Wednesday off, then play two games on Thursday. On
Thursday Trevecca will face Northwestern College (4-2) and Wayne State
(1-3). They will complete play in the Tucson Invitational on Friday,
March 11, 2005 with three games. Those games will be against Wheaton
College, Judson College, and Minot State
