TUCSON, Ariz. – Trevecca (10-0) faced
Northwestern College (9-3) and Wayne State (2-5) on Thursday and
brought home two more victories.
In the first game of the day Trevecca’s Holly Shane improved to 9-0 on
the year with a 11-6 victory over Northwestern College (Iowa). Trevecca
had 11 hits and three errors while Northwestern had eight hits and
three errors. With the score tied at two, Trevecca scored three in the
bottom half of the third inning. Northwestern rallied with four in the
fourth to lead 6-5. Trevecca tied the game with a run in the fifth and
broke the game open with five in the sixth inning. Maria Trapani
worked the plate for the Trojans, while Ashley McCool provided the
offense again with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a home run and three
RBI. Brandy Miller was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs. Megan
McHue (4-1) pitched for Northwestern and lost for the first time this
season.
In the second game of the day Trevecca picked up a 7-5 win over Wayne
State University. Jennifer Perkins (3-0) started on the mound and
picked up the win. Jami Toomey pitched the final three innings while
Evyn Terry and Maria Trapani split the catching duties for Trevecca.
Trevecca scored two in the first and a run in the second and third
innings. Wayne State scored one in the third and two in the fourth to
pull to within one of the Trojans. Trevecca answered with two in the
fifth and another in the seventh inning. Wayne State tried to rally
again, but fell short with just two runs in the seventh. Trevecca had
nine hits and three errors. Wayne State had eight hits and four errors.
Evyn Terry was 4-for-4 on the day with a home run, two doubles, four
runs and a RBI. Ashley McCool was 2-for-3 with a RBI.
Friday’s schedule has three opponents on tap in the final day of play
for Trevecca in the Tucson Invitational. Wheaton College (4-1), Judson
College (1-3), and Minot State (0-0) will be the opponents on Friday.
