LEBANON, Tenn. – Trevecca (17-0, 2-0) traveled to Lebanon, Tenn. to face Cumberland, Tenn. (4-9) for their first conference double-header of the season today and won both games.
In the first game Trevecca took an early lead scoring a run in the first inning, two in the second, and another two in the third. Cumberland answered back with two runs in the fourth. Both teams scored a run in the fifth, but in the top of the seventh the Trojans scored another run sealing the 7-3 victory. Hollie Shane (12-0) took the win for the Trojans on the mound with catcher Maria Trapani.
Laura Redmon led Trevecca batting 2-3 with two RBI and a home run, her second of the season. Ashley McCool also batted 2-3 with an RBI. Evyn Terry batted 4-4 with a double, alongside Lindsey Howard’s 2 RBI. Trevecca scored their seven runs on 17 hits while committing no errors. Cumberland had their three runs on 13 hits with one error.
In the second game of the day Trevecca scored four runs in the first inning. Cumberland came back with two in the second inning but that would be their only two runs of the game. The Trojans scored three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the top of the sixth when the game was called, giving them the 9-2 win.
Ashley McCool stepped up big for the Trojans batting 3-3 with a double, 3 RBI, and a home run, her fifth home run of the season. Maria Trapani batted 3-4 with 2 RBI. Laura Redmon and Lindsey Howard both had 2 RBI. Jennifer Perkins began the game on the mound, and Hollie Shane took over in the fifth. Perkins took the win for the Trojans with Maria Trapani catching. Trevecca scored their nine runs on 15 hits with no errors. Cumberland had their two runs on eight hits with one error.
The 17-0 start is the best start for a Trevecca softball team. The 2003 team held the previous record with a 16-0 start. Those 17 consecutive wins are also the longest winning streak in school history. This is the second time this year a Trevecca athletic team has broken their record for best start. The mens basketball team broke their previous record earlier this year with a 9-0 start.
