LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Trevecca (21-0)
extended their school record winning streak to start the season and the
record for consecutive wins with a pair of wins at Spalding University
(7-5). Trevecca won the opener 12-4 and posted a 15-2 victory in game
two.
Trevecca jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning
of game one and added one run in the third and five runs in the seventh
inning to take the 12-4 win. Hollie Shane (15-0) earned the complete
game victory with Maria Trapani catching. Spalding’s Katie Phillips
(3-3) took the loss with Brittany Campbell catching. Laura Redmon led
the Trojans with six RBI on two home runs in the game including a grand
slam. Jami Toomey went 3 for 4 with a stolen base while Maria Trapani,
Lindsey Howard, and Ashley McCool also homered in the victory. Trevecca
scored 12 runs on 16 hits and played errorless ball while Spalding
managed only four runs on 10 hits and committed two errors.
Game two saw Trevecca and Spalding remain tied 2-2 heading into the
sixth inning. In the top of the sixth, Trevecca erupted for five runs
then added eight more in the seventh inning for the 15-2 win.
Trevecca’s Jennifer Perkins started the game on the mound and pitched 5
1/3 innings with Hollie Shane (15-0) getting the win in relief. Evyn
Terry and Maria Trapani shared catching duties. For Spalding, Jenny
Goff (4-1) picked up the loss with Brittany Campbell catching. Lindsey
Howard paced the Trojans in game two batting 4 for 5 with two doubles
and three runs while Holly Hatcher went 2 for 4 with a triple and her
first home run of the season.
