NASHVILLE, Tenn. - NAIA No. 15 Trevecca (26-1, 5-1) took on No. 11 Union University (27-6, 1-1) in a double header Tuesday.
In game one, Hollie Shane (18-0) picked
up the win. Shane went the distance and allowed just three unearned
runs on five hits and struck out four. Mary Kosco (14-3) took the loss
for the Bulldogs with Kylie Sullivan behind the plate. For the Trojans,
Evyn Terry was 2-of-3 at the plate with two RBI, and a stolen base;
Lindsay Howard was 2-of-3 from the plate. The Trojans as a team scored
four runs on eight hits and commmitted two errors. The Bulldogs
scored three runs on five hits, with three errors. Trevecca claimed the
4-3 victory over Union and extended their win streak to a school record
26 games and ended Union’s 12 game winning streak.
In game two, the Union Bulldogs returned
the favor and ended Trevecca’s school record 26 game winning streak
with a 4-1 victory. The loss is Trevecca’s first of the season. Jami
Toomey (1-1) took the loss for the Trojans after allowing four runs in
the first three innings. Kristen Kolter hit a solo homer in the third
inning for the Bulldogs, forcing Toomey from the game in favor of
Hollie Shane. Providing the only run for the Trojans was Ashley McCool
with a solo homer (8) in the bottom of the seventh inning. McCool was
1-for-3 at the plate and had an RBI. As a team the Trojans had one run
on four hits and committed four errors. The Bulldogs earned four runs
on 12 hits and committed one error.
The 26 game winning streak for Trevecca
is the longest winning streak and best start to a season in school
history. The 26 game winning steak is the third best in NAIA history.
Union University holds the top two winning streaks with 31 in 2000 and
27 in 2002. Columbia College of Missouri and Trevecca have the third
best winning streak with 26 consecutive wins.
Next up for the Trojans will be the Lady Pelicans of Spalding University (6-12) on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.
