No. 4 Freed-Hardeman Upsets No. 1 Trevecca
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After winning a first round match up Wednesday
morning, the No. 4 Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions (24-14) returned to the
field five hours later to upset No. 1 Trevecca (36-6) by a final score
of 8-3.
Both team scored early with the first inning coming to a close in a 1-1
tie. The Lady Trojans grabbed the lead scoring two runs in the bottom
of the third on a Lindsey Howard home run. Freed-Hardeman answered with
two runs in the top of the fifth and secured the win with Brittany
Johnson’s grand slam in the top of the seventh to take the 8-3 victory.
Freed-Hardeman’s Adrienne Gann (14-5) earned the complete game victory
giving up three runs (all earned) on eight hits and striking out two in
seven innings of work. Trevecca’s Hollie Shane (28-4) took the complete
game loss giving up eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits and striking
out two.
Including the seventh inning grand slam, Lady Lion Brittany Johnson
went 4-for-4 on the day with four RBI and one run scored. Trevecca’s
Lindsey Howard batted 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI on a home run.
Freed-Hardeman scored eight runs on 11 hits while Trevecca scored three
runs on eight hits. Both team committed two errors in the ball game.
No. 4 Freed-Hardeman will advance to face No. 3 Martin Methodist in the
TranSouth Conference Semi-Finals on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. The loser of
that game will face No. 1 Trevecca in the Semi-Finals of the loser’s
bracket Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
