Requirements in Dramatic Arts and Theatre Education ![]() The Department of Communication Studies at Trevecca offers two degrees in the area of dramatic arts—the major in dramatic arts and the major in theatre education. The major in dramatic arts prepares students for performance in professional settings and/or for graduate studies in theatre. The major in theatre education is designed not only to prepare students in educational theatre but also to provide them with state certification for teaching theatre in grades K-12. To view the course of study requirements for each degree, you may access the Trevecca Course Catalog online and go to pages 91-92 and 96-98 for the major in dramatic arts and to pages 235-236 for the major in theatre education. ![]() Every student in the program is strongly encouraged to consider an internship in theatre (required of majors), ideally during the junior year. Including an internship with academic work provides students with valuable opportunities such as professional hands-on experience in the theatre, networking relationships among prospective employers, and building a well-rounded resumé for graduation.
Possible theatre internships may include organizations such as Nashville Children’s Theatre, Tennessee Repertory Theatre, Mockingbird Theatre, Nashville Shakespeare Festival, Chaffin’s Barn, the Tennessee Performing Arts Center, ProKids Productions, other summer stock theatre companies resulting from auditions at the
annual Southeastern Theatre Conference, or in a related field in communication or the arts based on the student's training in theatre at Trevecca. ![]()
