A Glossary of Trevecca TerminologyAcademic Support Center—Provider of basic tutoring and testing services, basic skills classes, computer-assisted instruction, and services for disabled students. Academic Support is part of the Center for Leadership, Calling and Service. Adams Administration Building—Trevecca’ administration building; houses the offices of ITS, Human Resources, Financial Services/Financial Aid, Academic Affairs, External Relations, Marketing/Communications; named after Trevecca’s ninth president, Homer J. Adams for his thirty years of service as a faculty member, administrator, and president Adams, Homer J.—Former history professor and academic dean; served the university for 30 years, twelve of them as Trevecca’s ninth president, 1979-1991 “Alum-News”—Newsletter for alumni; published by the Office of Alumni Services; started in 1948; revived in 1967. In the early 1990s AlumNews became a section in the Treveccan. Alumni Association/The Trevecca Alumni Association—Organization for alumni; its purpose is to maintain ties/relationships between Trevecca and its alumni Apple Dining Room—University’s main dining room, located in the Benson Auditorium—Auditorium in the McClurkan Bldg.; named for Eva Green Benson in 1981 when McClurkan Bldg. was renovated. This auditorium was the location for chapel until the student body outgrew the space. Benson Auditorium is the site for Trevecca dramatic productions. Benson Hall—Men’s dormitory; named after father and son, John T. Benson, Sr., and John T. Benson, Jr., loyal supporters of Trevecca Benson, Sr., John T.—Trevecca’s fourth president, 1925-1926 and a generous benefactor; founder of Benson Publishing Co., a leading publisher of a variety of materials—yearbooks, books, and music books. Boone Business Building/BBB—Trevecca’s newest building; home of the School of Business, MHR offices, the Cube snack shop, classrooms, and the convocation center; opened in 2007; located across Alumni Drive from Trevecca Community Church and beside Trevecca Healthcare; named for Dan Boone Bud Robinson Hall—In mid-2009 this building will become the home of the Center for Leadership, Calling, and Service. Named for Reuben “Uncle Bud” Robinson, an evangelist in the Church of the Nazarene, this building served Trevecca as cafeteria space, a snack shop, a women’s dorm (second floor), classrooms, computer labs, and faculty offices. Bush Apartments—Apartments for female upperclass honor students; named for Carrie B. Bush Cabinet/The President’s Cabinet—Administrative group composed of the president, provost, executive VP for finance/administration, associate provost and dean of academic affairs, associate provost and dean of student development, associate provost and dean of enrollment management, and VP for external relations Calendar—Listing of University events found online; go to TNU Info and select TNU AtoZ from the drop-down menu; click on Calendars. Personal electronic calendars are available in MS Outlook and IQWeb. “Campus News for the Trevecca Family”—Daily employee e-newsletter; provides daily information/announcements/cafeteria menus, etc.; published by the Office of University Communications Career and Counseling Center—Provider of career assistance and personal counseling; located in the former president’s home; located on Catalog/University Catalog—Listing of policies, procedures, and guidelines relative to academic programs Center for Leadership, Calling, and Service—Trevecca’s program dedicated to helping students “make the leap” into lives of service and leadership by helping students discover their passion and use that passion to guide their career plans. In mid-2009 the Center will be located in the Bud Robinson Bldg. Associate functions of the Center include Academic Support Center, testing services, peer tutoring, developmental courses, career and counseling services, services to students with disabilities, and computing lab. Church of the Nazarene—Parent denomination of Trevecca. Founded in 1908, this denomination is a Protestant Christian church in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, founded to spread the message of Christlike living (holiness); currently established in 151 world areas. More information can be found at http://www.nazarene.org/ministries/administration/visitorcenter/display.aspx Clinic—Campus health clinic; located on back side Georgia Hall on the ground floor; provides medical services to Trevecca’s undergraduate students and employees Cube, The Cube—Snack shop in the Darda—Trevecca’s yearbook; edited/produced by students; distributed in the fall; covers the preceding school year; provided to all students who were enrolled in the fall semester; can be purchased by employees Empower students to make the leap—Slogan/tag line that expresses what Trevecca does for its students Executive Team—Administrative team composed of the president, provost, and executive vice president for administration and finance experiencetrevecca.com—Admissions office microsite; geared for prospective students First Church of the Nazarene—Local church at Georgia Hall—Women’s dorm, named in honor of the Graduate programs Ed.D.—Trevecca’s doctoral programs—education and clinical counseling Master’s of Counseling Psychology Master’s of Education Master’s of Library and Information Science Master’s of Management Master’s of Religion Greathouse Science Building—Classroom-office building; home of the Physician Assistant Program and the Division of Science and Math; named for William M. Greathouse, Trevecca’s seventh president Greathouse, William M.—Former Trevecca religion professor and dean of religion before becoming Trevecca’s seventh president, 1963-1968; 1943 alumnus of Trevecca Hardy, Hart Street—Street that runs through campus, east to west; it is closed to traffic in the McClurkan Quad area. Henricks, Andrew Oliver—Trevecca’s fifth president, 1926-1928 Hub/The Hub—Campus snack shop; located on the ground floor of ICE—Intra Campus Exchange; intra-campus Web site where news/information items can be posted for employees and students to read Information Technology Services/ITS—Services campus technology, classroom instructional media, and related academic and administrative issues; located on the ground floor of Adams Administration Building Jernigan Student Center—Central building for students; built in 1984 and named for Lee and Jules Don Jernigan, who gave Trevecca its first $1-million gift; houses Apple Dining Room, The Hub snack shop, bookstore, Office of Student Development, SGA offices, conference rooms, President’s Dining Rooms, and student game room. Johnson Hall—Women’s dorm, named for Sadie Agnew Johnson, who was a mathematics professor at Trevecca J. V. Morsch Center for Social Justice—Trevecca’s interdisciplinary program that will train persons for careers in fields related to social justice; opens in the fall of 2009; named for the Rev. J. V. Morsch, a former pastor of “Living Water” Cascades—Rock cascade/fountain on the hillside in front of the Adams Building was a gift from First Church of the Nazarene, Nashville, TN, for Trevecca’s 75th anniversary MHR/Management and Human Relations Program—Trevecca’s degree-completion program for adults who have completed some college courses but have not graduated; a 13-month program; Middle Tenn.’s first program of its type Mackey Building—Office-classroom building; location of the Mackey, A. B.—Trevecca’s sixth president and the person who served the longest as president, 1936-1963 Make the leap—Slogan that describes what Trevecca helps students to do—Make the leap into successful lives/careers; Make the leap from high school to college; etc. Marks Guest House—Stone building behind Georgia Hall; visitor housing; named for Howard and Gladys Marks, whose donations made possible the renovation of that building Martin University Advancement Building—Building that houses the Offices of the President and Admissions; named for Paul Z. and Ethel Martin, benefactors of Trevecca McClurkan Hall—Classroom-office building; named for Trevecca’s founder, J. O. McClurkan; houses Benson Auditorium, classrooms, the Office of Alumni Services, and the Millard Reed School of Religion and the Christian Ministry Program office McClurkan, J. O.—Founder of the school that would become McClurkan Quad—The open area between the three buildings in the central campus (Mackey, McKay Media Room—Game room; located on second floor of Jernigan Student Center; named for Lula Mae Tidwell McKay, a Trevecca alumna who served as a missionary to India, where she died. E. and Alta Lindsay Redford, long-time members of Trevecca’s faculty Reed, Millard C.—Trevecca’s ninth president, 1991-2005 Roundabout—Traffic circle at the juncture of Security—Campus security is provided by Trevecca Security 24/7 from offices in the building on Shingler Apartments—One of the two apartment buildings for students closest to the central campus; named for T. J. Shingler, founder of Smith Hall—A private residence behind Georgia Hall; named for Donnie Smith, SGA president who struck by lightening the day before he graduated in 1959 Southeast Educational Region—The 8 southern states that comprise the Trevecca Educational Zone, the region of the Church of the Nazarene that supports Trevecca: Statue of Jesus—Bronze statue of Christ that is located in the center of the roundabout in in the main drive into the campus ( Tarter Student Activity Center/TSAC—Facility attached to Moore Gym; named for R. E. “Gene” Tarter, founder of the Trevecca Million-Dollar Club Tennessee Hall—Women’s dorm; named in honor of the “the hill”—A nickname for Trevecca; a reference to the topography of its location; Tidwell Faculty Center—Office building that faces tnutrojans.com—Trevecca’s athletic Web site Trevecca—University name that means “a binding together in love”; origins—from the Welsh village by the same name (Trefecka/Trevecka) where in 1768 Lady Huntingdon established a school, by that name, that was intended to bring together followers of two theological leaders—John Wesley and George Whitefield. “Trevecca Connection”—One-page newsletter published by the Office of University Communications on odd-numbered months; sent to an “insider” audience of donors/friends/pastors; its main focus is operational/fiscal news Trevecca Community Church of the Nazarene (formerly Treveccan—University’s quarterly news magazine; published by the Office of University Communications; free to all employees and students Trevecca Offices Office of Academic Affairs—Oversees all academic functions of the University; located on the third floor of Adams Admin. Office of Church Services—Serves Churches of the Nazarene in the SE region; is a part of the Office of the Chaplain; located on the ground floor of McClurkan Office of Conference Services—Coordinates use of University facilities by outside groups; locate on second floor of Adams Admin. Bldg. in the Office of the Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration Office of External Relations—Responsible for efforts with external audiences—alumni services, fund-raising, marketing, print shop, radio stations, University communications; main office located on third floor of Adams Admin. Bldg. Office of Financial Aid—Helps students/parents with all issues related to Scholarships/financial aid; located on the second floor of Adams Admin. Bldg. Office of Financial Services—Oversees all financial/accounting/business of the University; located on second floor of Adams Admin. Bldg. Office of Human Resources—Cares for employee-related issues; located on ground floor of Adams Admin. Bldg. Office of Marketing—Coordinates all efforts to promote or market Trevecca; located on the top floor of Adams Admin. Bldg. Office of the President—Serves as chief executive office; located on ground floor of Martin Bldg. Office of Student Development—Cares for the needs of students; works with student government/student activities; oversees athletic teams; handles student housing; located on the third floor of Office of University Communications—Has oversight of all University publications that go to large, external audiences; publishes the Treveccan, “Trevecca Connection,” and “Campus News.” Trevecca Society—Organization that recognizes persons who give to Trevecca at leadership levels ($1,000 in a fiscal year or $500 for alumni of the previous five years) Trevecca Health Care Center—Facility that is located beside the University Terrace Apartments—Trevecca’s apartment facility; located on WNAZ—Trevecca’s FM radio station; begun in 1967; one of the first Christian radio stations in WNRZ—Translator station in Waggoner Library—Home of library holdings, curriculum library, Dunn Conference Room, Quick Lecture Hall, Academic Support Center, offices of the Graduate Psychology Program; named for Don and Zelma Waggoner, who made the lead gift for this building; completed in 2000 Wakefield Fine Arts Building—Office-classroom facility; home of the Division of Music; named for A. C. Wakefield, a Nazarene song evangelist WENO—Trevecca’s AM radio station; AM 760 White, Stephen S.—Trevecca’s third president, 1919-1920 Wise Hall—Residence hall beside Tennessee Hall; used by male students in 2008-2009 school year; named for H.
