ATHENA Scholarship

For the twentieth anniversary of the Nashville ATHENA Award Program, the ATHENA committee will provide $21,000 in scholarships for a total of six awards in four categories. All scholarships will be awarded during the ATHENA Award ceremony on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, Nashville, Tennessee.

There will be four Non-Traditional scholarships from Categories II - IV.

Category II: This Non-Traditional scholarship, first given in 2001, will provide two scholarships in the amounts of $5,000 and $2,500 presented to women who have chosen to pursue an associate or bachelors degree later in life. The winning award is underwritten by Emdeon, and the second award is underwritten by Women in Commerical Real Estate (WCRE).

Category III: Non-Traditinal Women in Technology of Tennessee (WiTT) provides a  $3,000 scholarship to a woman currently in the workforce who has chosen to pursue a degree in science, technology, engineering or research field.

Category IV: Beginning in 2008, Saint Thomas Health Services (STHS) has provided a $3,000 scholarship to a woman currently in the workforce who has chosen to pursue a degree in a healthcare related field.

An applicant may apply to Category II (non-traditional) and either Category III or IV as appropriate. Each application is reviewed separately and duplicate information must be submitted if applying for more than one scholarship.

The scholarship application and directions regarding the essay are posted on the ATHENA website at www.NashvilleATHENAAwards.org.

The question for the essay this year is:
"What is the greatest gift you have to give and to whom would you give it?"

The rules and general information about the process are online. The application, the essay and all required information must be uploaded and submitted online. The scholarship recipients will be introduced on stage at the ATHENA Award program on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

The absolute deadline for receipt of application is December 18, 2009. Late applications will not be considered. Any questions may be directed to Ginny Thigpen or Vera Chatman by E-mail at scholarships@NashvilleATHENAAwards.org.
